Testimonial:

Lynne,

Just a note to say thank you for producing the Video Lessons on using the Sony Vegas software.

I tried learning by using the instructions included with the program but had frustrating disasters. My videos were silent - even though there was sound on the original files. However, I was even more frustrated that the rendered videos did not include everything I had intended. I gave up before working on the sound problem.

Then, your video mentioned the "Yellow Thingy." Since your version of the program differs slightly from mine, I wondered if there really was a Yellow Thingy in my program. I had not seen it. When I opened one of my failed projects, there it was!! Fixing that, fixed the content of the rendered project to include all the clips. Then I learned that the MPG Video file does not have sound because the sound is placed into a separate AAC file.

Your video has explained clearly how to make transitions and special effects. I'm now having fun creating videos from my old HI-8 tapes. You made it possible.

I was especially excited to learn that placing Markers into my project will cause Scene Chapters to appear at those locations. By labeling those markers, their label titles are added to the Scene Menu when I choose to add a Scene Menu before burning to disc. The result is a very professional, completed project. Sony Vegas is great - once a person sees how to use it.

Thanks again for making everything so easy.

When looking at other tutorials, consider:

Are they taught on the Vista platform?

Are they taught by a trained instructor who was taught by the U.S. Air Force to teach electronics and avionics systems?

Taught by an instructor who is a computer network engineer and has been working on PC platforms since 1985?

Are they teaching Sony Movie Studio or Platinum - the consumer versions? Why is this important? Many of the tutorials out there are teaching Sony Vegas PRO version. If you are just starting out and have bought the Movie Studio or Platinum version, you'll want to learn from tutorials that teach these consumer versions. There's no use in taking a tutorial if you own the consumer versions and your software doesn't do everything the Pro version does in the tutorial. It's overkill.

On the other hand, if you already own the Sony Vegas Pro versions, these tutorials are a good way to get started. Then you can take other tutorials later that teach all the other things that Pro offers.

You'll also want to make sure you're taking a tutorial that teaches the latest versions of Sony Vegas Movie Studio or Platinum.

About the instructor:

LM Schlumpf is a documentary filmmaker in Alaska.

She has been editing in Sony Vegas since version 6.0. She has been working with computers since 1985 and Windows version 2.0. She is a certified computer network engineer with a bachelors in Computer Information Systems.

She was an electronics instructor during her service in the Air Force and loves teaching people. She is the Vice President of Alaska In My Dreams Film Studio, Inc.
